The Best Home Fitness Equipment
Fitness equipment has so many advantages, especially fitness equipment in home gyms. It is much more convenient to exercise at home than to make time daily for a trip to the gym.
Purchasing fitness equipment for your home is actually less expensive in the long run than a pricey gym membership. You also have the freedom to exercise whenever you want without having to go outside and battle traffic and the weather.
There are many types of fitness equipment to choose from when building a home gym. The best fitness equipment for home gym includes the following.
- Treadmills - Treadmills are the most popular type of fitness equipment. They give walkers and runners a place away from the weather. Walking and running is the best cardiovascular workout. Treadmills work for all different levels, regardless of age, health level, or ability. Treadmills take up room, so if you are short on space consider a treadmill that folds away for storage.
- Elliptical Machines - Elliptical machines are new to the market, but are becoming more popular every day. These low impact machines work especially well for those with joint or knee pain. An elliptical machine is a cross between a skiing machine and a stair stepper. Just like treadmills, elliptical machines take up some room, so look for a model that accommodates for easy storage if you cannot keep it set up all the time.
- Dumbbells - Dumbbells are probably the oldest piece of fitness equipment invented. Dumbbells are perfect for people weight training alone. You can work numerous muscles groups with dumbbells, although they do not allow for a cardiovascular workout unless used in conjunction with a cardio exercise. Dumbbells do not take up much space to store. Start with lighter dumbbells and build up to heavier ones.
- Yoga and Pilates Videos and Equipment - Yoga and Pilates compliments any type of fitness equipment workout. These workouts offer body conditioning and increased flexibility. There are many types of yoga presented on videos, from power yoga to a more relaxing stretching and breathing type of yoga. Pilates equipment is often used by dancers to strengthen muscles and enhance flexibility. Yoga and Pilates videos are complimented by fitness equipment, such as blocks, mats, pillows, rolls, and more. Yoga and Pilates fitness equipment is easy to store.
- Elastic Bands - Elastic bands take up practically no room to store. They build muscle nicely and are affordable and simple to use. Sometimes elastic bands are part of a yoga or Pilates workout. Elastic bands can fit away in a drawer.
- Chinup Bar - Chinup bars easily attach in a doorway. You place your hands around the bar and pull up, bringing your chin above the bar before lowering. You probably had to do chin-ups in high school gym class. Chinup bars may not be for everyone, especially since a permanently mounted bar is best.
