Buying A Bike

Fitness equipment in the form of a bike is a great way to get in shape. After you have decided on a street bike, mountain bike, or hybrid bike, the next step is to buy the bike that fits you best.

A bike that “fits” is an important piece of fitness equipment. A bicycle shop can take your measurements, including your arm length, leg length, and torso length, and then run the numbers through a computer program. This computer program will give you the specifications and frame measurement that will best fit your body. This is a great way to find the best fitness equipment to fit your body, but it is expensive. If you cannot afford to have this done, consider the following tips to help you find the best fitness equipment bike for you.

The first thing you should do is check the height of the frame. The best way to do this is, just as with any piece of fitness equipment, to sit on the bike and try it out. Make sure you have plenty of room between you and the seat. You want at least two inches of clearance, but no more than four inches of clearance.

Once you have determined the best frame height for your fitness equipment, check the length of the frame. Sit on the bike and make it is comfortable to reach the handlebars. You want your reach to the handlebars to be comfortable for safety reasons. If the handlebars are too close or far, you will not control the bike adequately.

The next step is to adjust the handlebars and seat of the prospective fitness equipment bike. Adjust the seat so you have at least a thirty degree bend when the pedal is low. Put your foot on the pedal and push it down to the position that is lowest to double check the seat height.

The handlebars should be about the same width as your shoulders. Align the handlebars so they are the same height as the seat. Some bicycle riders prefer the handlebars be set at about an inch lower than the seat height. Make sure the brakes are easy to reach.

Now that you have the perfect sized piece of fitness equipment, it is time to go for a ride. You should feel in control when riding. The bike should be comfortable with your elbows relaxed, not straight. Make sure to stand up when pedaling. Change your handgrips to find what best works for you.

After you have found the perfect fitness equipment bike for you, consider accessories. Every bike rider needs a helmet. Other accessories include a pump for the tires, a repair kit, an air pressure test kit, a pack that fits under the seat, water bottle, and bicycle lock.
