Building Your Own Home Gym
Fitness equipment is a frequent request at the beginning of a new year. People make the resolution to “get fit” every year. Unfortunately, most people do not follow through with this resolution, usually because they do not have a good plan in place.
The easiest way to get in shape is by having your own home gym. Of course, you still have to use the fitness equipment, but having it at home is easier than making time every day for a trip to a gym. The following tips will help you make a fitness plan and choose fitness equipment to build your own home gym.
The first place to start is by defining your goals. Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to build muscle to impress the ladies? Your goals will lead you to the best fitness equipment for you.
After you have defined your goals, you need to find the best fitness equipment and routine for you. Is a treadmill best for you? What about weight lifting? Elliptical? Rowing machine? If you do not know, it is time to seek the advice of your physician. You may also want to consult a personal trainer. Once you know what fitness equipment is best for you, it is time to head to the fitness equipment store.
It is best to buy fitness equipment one at a time. You can add to your home gym a little at a time as you progress in your fitness program. This way you will not spend all of your money on fitness equipment you may not like and you know whether you will stick with your program or need to change.
Go to a fitness equipment store and try out fitness equipment. A fitness equipment store is better than a discount or department store because the salespeople will be knowledgeable about the equipment.
For example, if you are starting out with weights, purchase an adjustable weight lifting bench first. Choose a weight lifting bench that adjusts to different angles, has leg exercise attachments, and a bench press. Make sure the weight lifting bench is a “universal” bench that accommodates different styles of weights.
Buy a pair of fixed dumbbells for your weight lifting bench. Start with a weight you feel you can lift at least ten times during one set. It is best to workout with the fixed dumbbells for six to eight weeks so your body adjusts to weight lifting before moving on to other or heavier weights.
Then, add barbells to your workout by purchasing a universal barbell set. That is about all you will need for a weight lifting home gym.
Do not only stick with weight lifting, consider adding cardio to your workout next by adding a treadmill, elliptical, or stationary bike. If you do not want to purchase additional equipment, consider just going outside for a run.
Other fitness equipment you may want to add to your program include an inflatable exercise ball, jump rope, yoga mat, and Pilates equipment.
